Brand Guide
Created by craft grower JOI, HiFi was built for experienced, high-frequency cannabis consumers who know what they want: strong, reliable products at an everyday price.
The problem? Value cannabis has a tendency to look like, well, value cannabis.
HiFi needed to bring together accessible pricing, high quality, local production and cultural relevance without disappearing into the visual sameness of the category, or borrowing too heavily from JOI’s established identity.
And we had tight parameters to play within.
Cannabis packaging regulations meant limited logo space and restrictions around living imagery. Whatever we created had to hit hard at a small scale, work within a highly regulated environment and still feel unmistakably HiFi.
The opportunity wasn't to make a value brand look more premium.
It was to give value cannabis an identity people would actually want to pick up.
our approach
We built HiFi around a simple tension:
Craft quality without the craft price tag.
That became Street-Level Craft—a strategic territory designed to combine the credibility of local cultivation with the accessibility and energy of a cultural brand.
No wellness clichés. No Cannabis 101. No pretending to be precious.
Just a confident brand built for people who already know their way around the category.

Visual Identity System
Making Four Letters Hit Hard
With limited packaging real estate and a four-letter name, there wasn't room for the identity to whisper.
So we made the wordmark the hero.
It needed to be instantly recognizable, highly legible at regulated packaging sizes and strong enough to carry the brand without relying on complicated imagery.
We explored four creative directions:
Urban Graffiti
Modern Playful Punk
Old School Blocks
Bold Retro
Each pushed HiFi's personality in a different direction while staying anchored to the same strategic idea: Street-Level Craft.
The final system pairs a vibrant, street-inspired colour palette with confident typography and bold graphic expression.
Energetic without trying to look premium.
Playful without becoming juvenile.
Crafted without becoming precious.
Most importantly, it doesn't look like every other value product on the shelf.
It looks like HiFi.
Brand Strategy & Positioning
Creating Street-Level Craft
HiFi's audience wasn't looking to be educated about cannabis. They were experienced, frequent consumers making decisions with price, potency and product quality firmly in mind.
So we met them there.
Rather than leaning into familiar cannabis imagery, polished wellness cues or premium craft conventions, we looked outside the category—to street culture, skate and snowboard influences, bold graphics and a playful streak of rebellion.
The goal wasn't rebellion for rebellion's sake. It was relevance.
Street-Level Craft gave HiFi four clear attributes to own: accessible, high-quality, local and culturally relevant.
That tension became the filter for everything that followed.
Crafted, but never precious.
Accessible, but never cheap.
Playful, but never juvenile.
A value brand with something most value brands forget to build: personality.
Brand Guide
Built for the Real World
The identity wasn't designed to live in a presentation.
It needed to survive the real world: tiny regulated packaging, cost-conscious applications, future products and whatever HiFi throws at it next.
We created a focused brand guide covering logo usage, colour, typography and key applications, giving the team a practical system they can use consistently as the brand grows.
The visual language was deliberately designed to work just as hard on simple, cost-effective touchpoints—from regulated packaging to stickers—without losing the personality that makes HiFi recognizable.
Because a good identity shouldn't become harder to use once the designers leave the room.
Value Cannabis Doesn't Need Another Value Aesthetic
HiFi brings together two things the category too often separates: everyday value and intentional brand design.
The result gives Joy's value line a territory of its own—one that carries the credibility of craft cultivation without the craft price tag, and the accessibility of a value product without looking like a commodity.
HiFi isn't pretending to be premium.
It doesn't need to.
It now has something far more useful: a brand people can recognize, remember and actually want to pick up.
See how we're helping cannabis brands build distinction, relevance and recognition in one of the most regulated—and competitive—categories around.
